The NiSi Cinema 4x4" Nano IRND Soft-Edge Graduated 0.9 Filter (3 Stop) selectively darkens bright areas of a frame -- typically a sky -- while leaving the rest of the image exposed normally, compensating for the fact that a camera's dynamic range still can't match what the human eye sees in one glance. Its soft-edge transition changes gradually from dark to light rather than a hard line, suited to scenes with an uneven horizon like mountains or a cityscape.
