Description
The MOTU 8M is a Thunderbolt audio interface built around 8 pristine mic preamps, aimed at studios and live sound engineers who need premium mic inputs alongside large-format digital mixing. It's the first interface to pair 8 mic/guitar preamps with Thunderbolt connectivity and AVB audio networking, and its V-Limit hardware limiter and Precision Trim digital gain control give engineers studio-console-level control over every input. Ultra-low 1.4ms latency and a 48-channel onboard mixer make it equally useful for tracking and live monitoring.
- 8 pristine mic preamps: Individually adjustable 48V phantom power and -20dB pad on each of 8 mic/guitar inputs, with combo jacks accepting line-level or instrument sources.
- V-Limit overload protection: A hardware limiter lets signals go up to +9dB above zero without digital clipping.
- Precision Trim gain control: 53dB of preamp gain adjustable in 1dB increments via digital rotary encoders, with settings savable for future recall.
- Studio-grade converters: ESS Sabre32 Ultra converters achieve a measured 123dB dynamic range, with round-trip Thunderbolt latency of just 1.4ms.
- 48-channel digital mixer: Modeled after large-format consoles, with modeled British analog EQ, compression, and LA-2A-style leveling on groups and the Main Mix bus.
- Networked and standalone operation: Expands with up to 5 MOTU interfaces over AVB Ethernet, and can run standalone with wireless mixing control from a phone or tablet.
