The MOTU 8A is a Thunderbolt, USB 3.0, and AVB Ethernet audio interface built around ESS Sabre32 DAC technology, delivering the same analog audio quality as MOTU's flagship 16A in a more compact 8-channel package. It provides eight channels of analog I/O plus eight channels of ADAT optical digital I/O for 34 simultaneous audio channels, with onboard DSP mixing so it can also run standalone once you unplug it from the computer.
- ESS Sabre32 DAC: 24-bit/192kHz analog audio quality with ultra-low round-trip latency as low as 1.6ms at 96kHz over Thunderbolt.
- 34 Simultaneous Channels: 8 channels of analog I/O plus 8 channels of ADAT optical digital I/O, with a front-panel headphone jack.
- Onboard DSP Mixing: 48-channel console-style mixing with 12 stereo busses and 32-bit floating point effects, including Classic Reverb (up to 60 seconds), 4-band parametric EQ, and two compressor models (a conventional compressor and a Leveler modeled on the LA-2A).
- Standalone Operation: unplug from the computer and run as a standalone mixer with effects, controlled over Wi-Fi from a browser on laptop, tablet, or phone.
- Multiple Connectivity: Thunderbolt, USB 3.0, AVB Ethernet, or USB class-compliant firmware, with AVB/TSN Ethernet for linking to other MOTU AVB interfaces.
