Tiffen 52mm Red #25 Screw-In Filter

The Tiffen 52mm Red #25 is a classic contrast filter for black-and-white photography. By blocking blue and green light, it renders blue skies nearly black for dramatic cloud separation, cuts through haze and fog, and can even fake a moonlit night scene in daylight when you underexpose slightly. On infrared film it pushes the effect further — glowing white foliage under deep, dark skies.

It is built with Tiffen's ColorCore process: the color layer is laminated between two pieces of optical glass, then ground and polished flat, and mounted in a metal ring that screws directly onto any lens with 52mm front threads. Plan for the 3-stop exposure increase (filter factor 8); through-the-lens meters handle most of that automatically.
